I saw a few of these flowers near the bottom of the trail. In retrospect I think they are probably beargrass (Xerophyllum tenax). On one of the flowers I noticed this spider in its warm embrace with the bee. The bee appeared to be dead (it wasn't moving of its own volition anyway) but the spider was definitely alive.
