It was forty degrees according to the thermometer at the warming shelter when I got up today. Felt pretty cold. I ate some oatmeal, packed up, and left around 9am.
Coming out of Lindamen there were a lot more hills than I was expecting.
There was a graveyard on a little hill near what I guess is probably Lindamen rapids. It was full of people from gold rush times and unlike the grave markers at Lindamnen many of these were still readable. One was a railroad worker, another appears to have been a mountie.
Somewhere before the cutoff I decided to take the train the whole way back to Skagway. Though it was more expensive, it was simpler and I felt I would be more "true to the trail". I had some time to hang out at Bennet before the train got there. It was kind of fun to explore around the old ghost town. Shortly before Bennet I also enjoyed sitting on a rock outcropping and watching the view while soaking up the remaining sun that was disappearing behind clouds.
The train ride back to Skagway was nice enough (other than the price). They kept all of us hikers in our own car to avoid stinking out the other passangers. By the time we got to Skagway all vestiges of the sunshine were gone. After setting up at the local youth hostel and taking a shower, I enjoyed a cheeseburger at a local restaurant (where I paid an extra $1 for a piece of cheese that was transparent) then went back to the hostel and got to sleep (in a bed!).
