Shore Birds and Gulls

There seemed to be a pretty clear segregation with the shore birds taking the lower rock while the gulls were higher up. At the time I wondered if maybe the gulls encouraged the smaller shorebirds to perch lower on the rock, but on a later date, I saw the shorebirds still perched low with no gulls around at all.
