Alder Question
This picture shows part of an alder log that appears to have been dead for at least a couple of years. The question my brother and I had was regarding the black stringy stuff that can be seen running along the trunk. It was underneath the bark and I was thinking it was probably fungal in nature. Jonathan thought it was part of the tree's vascular system.
