New Elderberry Plant
Sambucus racemosa

This plant was growing from a recessed area in upright rootwad (where trees had fallen down). I am not sure how the seed came to this particular location. It is possible that the seed was there before the trees fell, or a bird may have deposited it. Elderberries are not too picky about location, it seems. I have seen them growing out of street drains and in an eagle nest among other places.

Location: Westwood Trail, Sitka, Alaska

Previous: Orange Water
