Text: The Basic Practice of Statistics Third Edition
Prerequisites:
Math 150 or Math 137
Description:
Descriptive statistics, frequency distribution, normal probability functions and sampling distributions, estimation of population parameters, tests of statistical hypotheses and inference, t, F, chi-square, correlation, regression analysis and analysis of variance.
Objectives:
Students will be able to:
- Use concepts of data variation, distributions, and relationships between variables
- Present data and its statistical analysis
- Design experiments and surveys
- Analyze data with a variety of statistical tools, such as regression analysis and analysis of variance
- Statistical inference, tests of significance, confidence, and calculation of errors
- Make decisions and recommendations based on statistical analysis
Course Requirements:
- Completion of assigned homework
- Regular attendance and active participation in class
- Final project involving the collection and analysis of data
- Satisfactory performance on all exams
Teaching Strategies:
- Lectures, student presentations, computer work, and class discussion will all be used.
- Homework and projects will be assigned to encourage greater understanding of subjects along with their applications
- Exams will be given to assess each student's understanding of the material.
Evaluation and Criteria for Grading:
