Deer Fern
Blechnum spicant

I am not sure how this plant survives living practically in the middle of the trail. I guess it gets some protection from passing soles by the tree root on its uphill side. A distinguishing characteristic of this fern is the presence of two different types of fronds. Apparently one of them is sterile while the other type is not.

Location: Beaver Lake Trail near Sitka, Alaska

Next: Clarence Kramer Peak
