Slug Eggs (?)

Slug eggs are my best guess as to what these are. However, they were out in the open and it is my understanding that slugs tend to lay eggs in nooks and crannies. (Update: June 2006 -- This is a slime mold, not slug eggs)

Location: Sealion Cove Trail, Kruzof Island, Southeast Alaska
