Sliding Around on Indian River Falls
Scott Trucks took this picture of me trying not to slide down the side of this ice mound at the base of Indian River Falls. While I was in Sitka on Christmas break in 1996, there was a period of two or three weeks where it was as cold as I ever remember it being. As a result of this cold snap, when Scott Trucks and I hiked up Indian River Trail, we found the falls to be mostly frozen. There still was some slush falling which froze almost immediately upon contact. After climbing around on the ice, I came down with a glaze of ice on my back from the freezing slush.
